If there’s one thing we’ve learned in recent years, it’s that a planet without mass tourism is a healthier planet. At Begi-Bistan, we’ve always known that.
From our small corner on the Cantabrian coast, we promote sustainable tourism, offering activities that generate the least possible impact on the natural environment. We offer fun and mindful experiences like kayak descents along the Oria River or guided walking and boat tours along the Flysch, designed to awaken curiosity and respect for our land.
Do you want to be a responsible traveler?
Here are some tips to travel in a more sustainable and conscious way:
1. Pack a responsible suitcase
Did you know we usually use only 20% of what we bring on a trip?
Choose only what’s essential: comfortable and versatile clothing. If you need anything else, buy it locally.
Use solid or zero-waste toiletries: soap bars, solid shampoo, plastic-free deodorant… They last longer, pollute less, and are easier to travel with.
Avoid single-use items like makeup remover pads, disposable razors, or cotton swabs.
2. Reduce paper use
These days, there’s no need to print flight tickets or receipts. Always use digital formats when possible.
📱 At Begi-Bistan, all our bookings are made online. On the day of the activity, you only need your phone.
More convenient and more eco-friendly.
3. Are you flying?
Air transport accounts for around 12% of global CO₂ emissions. If you can, choose the train, public transport, or routes on foot, by bike, or by kayak. Zero emissions, maximum connection.
If flying is unavoidable, offset your footprint by supporting sustainable projects, and avoid using single-use products on board: bring your own headphones, reusable bottle, and blanket.
4. Buy local whenever possible
Shop at local markets, cook at home if you can, and bring your own reusable bags.
When eating out, choose places that offer seasonal products, local wines, beers, and recipes.
Consuming local is a direct way to support the community you’re visiting.
